Have you ever lost your friendships, faith, hopes or dreams in your life? If you want to get rid of your troubles and from the bottom up, I would like to introduce my favorite movie – The Shawshank Redemption. It talks about a man who was set up to go to a jail and never lost his hope and faith. He was still reading and helping others read.He believed knowledge is power. The story tells us that fear can hold you prisoner and only hope can set you free.
Losing faith is the most horrible thing in the world. Andy Dufresne was a white- collar successful banker, a good citizen. Since his wife was murdered, his life totally changed. He was wrongly convicted of murdering his wife because someone set him up. If it happen to others, they might attempt suicide. But he didn’t. Although he suffered from discrimination in the prison, he didn’t kill himself. Finally, the warden didn’t want to help him when he knew Andy was guiltless. Andy didn’t even abandon himself to despair. He looked at the bright side of his life. He had faith in his living. He always did.
“Knowledge is power.” Andy always firmly believed in this saying. Andy was able to escape from the prison finally because of his intelligence. In the prison, he couldn’t get any new information and knowledge but through reading. It was good news that the prison gave prisoners chances to read. He not only read by himself but also taught others how to read. He taught Tommy and Tommy passed the exam. How didn’t he have chance to build his plan? Because he helped the warden clean his dirty money. If he didn’t have this kind of knowledge, I doubt whether he escaped from the prison or not.
No one can do something big without having hopes. Living with hopes and dreams makes people happy, positive, energetic and optimistic, especially in the dark, unfair, ugly prison. For example, when he got out a solitary with smile, he said he had Mr. Mozart to keep his company. How humorous he was! Because of having hopes, he was able to dig a hopeful hole to the freedom. In there, he always dreamed to open a little hotel near a warm beach near the Pacific Ocean in Mexico. He had never underestimated himself. He just followed his dream. Eventually, he rewarded his words although it had been 20 years since he came into the jail.
There’s an old saying, “Hope springs eternal in the human breast.” The movie is very good to everybody. The economy is very bad nowadays. Many people are unemployed because the company they work for went under. More people lose their money in the stock market. In this moment, it is important to not lose hope, to keep getting the knowledge. One day, we will escape the bad economic prison.
